I’m a big proponent of loving yourself first before looking for someone to fill that void. If you’ve done any kind of personal development or spiritual work, that void might be smaller but it was created back when you were growing up.
Take a moment to think about your childhood. One of the most common desires for kids is to be liked. And if you had incidences of bullying or feeling alone, those feelings are likely still present as an adult.
When we look to others to fill a void within ourselves, the relationships will likely be superficial or short-lived. Despite that famous line in the movie Jerry Maguire, no one can truly “complete” you without self-love and a desire to grow ALONG with your partner.
